Don Bosco Polytechnic College is a Salesian institution of higher education run by the Salesians of Don Bosco: a world renowned society of Catholic Priests and Brothers committed to the cause of serving and accompanying the young people. The Tiruchy Don Bosco Society headed by the Salesian Provincial administers the college on behalf of the society.The day today activities of the college is entrusted to the Don Bosco Tharangam Trust headed by the Rector of Don Bosco, Kazhiappanallur, Tharangambadi.

The center came into existence after the natural disaster Tsunami which affected the east coast of India on 26th December 2004. The district of Nagapattinam, Tamil Nadu was most affected by it, causing 6,065 deaths.

Hence, to give better facilities and quality in trainning, the salesians started in 2006 a Home for school going children and in 2008 a Non Formal Vocational Training Centre offering courses in Welding, Tailoring, Electrician and Computer trades in the Don Bosco premises.
